New Delhi, May 23 (HS). The army is conducting an internal survey amid questions being raised during the Lok Sabha elections on the 'Agnipath Yojana' launched two years ago for recruitment in the three armies. On the basis of this, it can prepare recommendations for the incoming government on possible changes in the scheme. The army has included recruitment and training staff, unit and sub-unit commanders in various regimental centers in this survey.
The government launched the Agneepath scheme in June 2022 to recruit soldiers, airmen and sailors as 'Agniveers'. Under the scheme, after serving for four years, 75 percent of the Agniveers are to be relieved from duty and 25 percent of the Agniveers are to be permanently appointed. Since its launch, the scheme has sparked a lot of debate, especially in political circles. During the Lok Sabha elections, the opposition alliance has announced to end this scheme and return to the earlier military recruitment process. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has also said in election rallies that the government is ready to make changes in the 'Agnipath Yojana' if needed, but it will not affect the future of the youth joining as Agniveers.
Meanwhile, the Army is conducting an internal survey on the 'Agneepath Scheme' to assess its impact so far on its recruitment process. According to officials, recruitment and training staff, unit and sub-unit commanders in various regimental centers of the Army have been included in this survey. This survey is based on 10 questions, in which recruitment and training staff will also have to answer questions asked about the overall impact on recruitment in the army after the implementation of the scheme. The answers to all the questions will be put together before the senior military leadership by the end of this month to evaluate the survey. Based on these details, the Army can prepare recommendations for the incoming government on possible changes in the 'Agneepath Plan'.
The survey will also ask Agniveers why they decided to join the Army, what other jobs, competitions or recruitment they tried before joining as an Agniveer. Do they think they should be permanently inducted into the army? They will also give information about their preferred career or other options after four years and whether they would like to stay here and serve in the army or look for job opportunities elsewhere, including paramilitary forces. The survey will seek to know from them whether they would inspire their friends and family members to join as Agniveer.
