There is devastation all around due to the landslide in Wayanad, Kerala. So far 151 people have died due to the natural disaster. So far 481 people have been rescued and taken to safe places since the disaster. 98 people are still missing. They are feared to be trapped in the debris. After the landslide in Wayanad, Indian Army, Indian Air Force and NDRF personnel have been deployed and are continuously carrying out rescue operations to evacuate people trapped in the debris.
Rain continues
It is still raining intermittently in Wayanad. Due to which there is a problem in the rescue operation. The army is constantly trying to rescue the stranded people with the help of helicopters. About 225 people have been deployed for the operation. They have been divided into four teams. The stranded people are rescued and airlifted. Relief material has been delivered to the site of incident by a special Air Force plane. 481 people have been rescued, while 3069 people have been evacuated. 98 people are still missing. They are feared to be trapped in the debris.

Heavy rains in Kerala's hilly region Wayanad caused landslides at several places on Tuesday morning. The death toll is expected to rise as many people are trapped under the debris. People sleeping at home did not even get a chance to escape. Three landslides have wreaked havoc in areas like Churalmala, Mundakkai in Wayanad. Many houses collapsed, rivers overflowed and trees fell.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that more than 3000 people have been shifted to 45 relief camps set up in Wayanad district. The first landslide occurred at 2 am and then the second one at 4.10 am. He said that connectivity has been lost in Meppadi, Mundakkai and Churalmala areas. The Churalmala-Mundakkai road has been completely damaged.
Political mourning in Kerala
Political mourning has been declared in Kerala after the landslide incident in Wayanad. All offices will remain closed today and flags will fly at half-mast. According to the Chief Minister, the state government is deeply saddened by this incident. In which many people have lost their lives and there has been massive loss of property. According to the official notification issued by Chief Secretary V. Venu on Tuesday, political mourning has been declared on July 30 and 31. According to the protocol, the national flag will fly at half-mast on these two days and all government programs will be canceled.
Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan will visit Wayanad today and review the situation on the spot. The Governor may meet the injured. Officials said that the landslide affected areas include Churalmala, Attmala and Nulpuja villages. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi's program to visit Wayanad today has been canceled. Due to bad weather, Rahul and Priyanka will not go to Wayanad for now. Rahul Gandhi tweeted that Priyanka and I were going to Wayanad to meet the landslide affected families and review the situation. However, due to continuous rain and bad weather, we have been informed by the authorities that we will not be able to land. I want to assure the people of Wayanad that we will reach there soon.
