Dhaka, 19 October (HS). Bangladesh Army has arrested SK Sakil Ahmed, Assistant General Manager (AGM) of Brahmanbaria Palli Vidyut Samiti. He was arrested for destabilizing the power plant, hours after being fired from his job. Ahmed, 31, was arrested from Ghatura area of Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila and handed over to the police.
According to Prothom Alo newspaper, Brahmanbaria Sadar Police Station in-charge Muzaffar Hussain has confirmed the arrest of Ahmed. He said Ahmed has been arrested in a case registered at Khilkhet police station in Dhaka. This information has been sent to Khilkhet Police Station. According to the Rural Electrification Board, Ahmed became part of the board on October 31, 2021. He was posted at Bhola Palli Electricity Committee office on 7th November. On July 15, 2023, he was transferred to Brahmanbaria Palli Vidyut Samiti.
In this regard, Mehjabeen Rehman said that her husband was suspended on April 29 after sending a memorandum by e-mail to the board chairman on behalf of 80 parish electricity unions. This suspension order was canceled on 14 July. But on Thursday night he was dismissed and the soldiers arrested him in the morning. He asked the interim government, “Is this justice?”
It is noteworthy that the board's legal wing director Arshad Hussain had registered a case at Khilkhet police station on Thursday night accusing four officers. It said that all of them are trying to tarnish the image of the interim government and put it in an embarrassing situation. This is tantamount to treason.
