Paris, July 27 (HS). Indian shooters Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Singh Cheema on Saturday failed to qualify for the final of the men's 10m air pistol event at the ongoing Paris Olympics in Chateauroux, France.
Sarbajot finished ninth (one spot short of qualifying). He shot 577 after 60 shots, equal with Robin Walter of Germany, but made 16 inner 10s, one less than the German.
Cheema finished 18th with a score of 574 and 17 inner 10s. He started strongly with series of 96, 97 and 97. However, a '7' in the fourth series and two 8s in the fifth series made his progress difficult. He also scored 97 in the final series but the damage was already done.
Sarabjot started with a series of 94 and then followed it up with 97 and 96. A perfect 100 in the fourth series raised his hopes of qualification. However, he could only manage 93 in the next series, which included an '8' shot.
In the final series, Sarabjot shot 87 in the first nine shots. The Indian needed an inner 10 to match Walter's number but couldn't find one.
Damir Mikec of Serbia topped the qualification round with 584, followed by Federico Nilo Maldini of Italy (581) and Christian Reitz of Germany (580).
