Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been given severe punishment by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In the 56th league match of IPL 2024 against Delhi Capitals, Sanju Samson argued with the umpires, which cost him dearly. Due to this, BCCI has imposed a heavy fine on him. Samson will have to pay 30 percent of his match fee to the board as a fine. Controversy arose over Samson's catch.
Actually, Sanju Samson was out after taking a brilliant catch of Shai Hope at the boundary. Mukesh Kumar bowled the fourth ball of the 16th over on good length, Samson played a shot towards long on. Here Hope took the catch but during this his foot came very close to the boundary. The third umpire saw the replay but deemed the catch clean and Samson was given out.
After this, Samson argued with the field umpires but the umpires did not listen to him and later he was fined. Sanju Samson has committed a Level 1 offense under Section 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He pleaded guilty and accepted the match referee's punishment. The match referee's decision for a Level 1 breach of the Code of Conduct is final and binding. In such a situation, there will be no hearing on this matter. Rajasthan Royals had to face defeat in this match.
Talking about this match, Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson won the toss and decided to bowl but Delhi Capitals batted first and scored 221 runs. In reply, Rajasthan team could score only 201 runs and lost the match by a margin of 20 runs. Kuldeep Yadav took 2 wickets for Delhi. While batting, Fraser McGurk and Abhishek Porel scored strong half-centuries. Samson's innings of 86 runs went in vain.
