News India Live, Digital Desk: There would hardly be any one of us who does not have a Tulsi plant in his courtyard or balcony. In our Hindu religion, Tulsi is not just a plant but is considered to be the actual form of Goddess Lakshmi. It is said that in a house where there is green basil, there is no trouble. We all wake up every morning with great love and devotion and offer water to Tulsi Maa and offer incense sticks.

But, do you know that this devotion of ours can sometimes harm us unknowingly? Yes, there are some special rules of Tulsi worship mentioned in the scriptures, which we often ignore due to lack of information. Let us understand in very simple language that When should water be offered to Tulsi and when should it be stopped?

Do not offer water on Sunday
Often, as per habit, even on Sunday holidays, people take bath early in the morning and offer a pot of water to Tulsi. According to the scriptures this is not considered right. If beliefs are to be believed, Tulsi Mata rests on Sunday. Offering water to them or plucking their leaves on this day can make them angry. This is considered a form of disturbing their comfort.

Take special care of Ekadashi
This rule is most important and many people do not know it. Lord Vishnu is worshiped on the day of Ekadashi, and Tulsi ji is very dear to Lord Vishnu. It is believed that On the day of Ekadashi, Mother Tulsi observes ‘Nirjala Vrat’ (fast without water) for Lord Vishnu.

Just think, if someone is fasting and you force him to drink water, will his fast not be broken? Similarly, offering water on Ekadashi breaks the fast of Tulsi Mata. Astrology says that doing this can cause financial crisis in the house and increase problems in life.

Then what is the right way?
To get full benefit from Tulsi worship, keep some small things in mind:

  • Offer water regularly except Sunday and Ekadashi.
  • Do not water Tulsi after sunset i.e. in the evening, just light the lamp.
  • If the Tulsi plant dries up, remove it immediately and plant a new one, because keeping a dry Tulsi plant at home is not considered auspicious.
