Shanghai, April 27 (HS). India made a strong start at the ongoing Archery World Cup in Shanghai on Saturday, winning three gold medals in the compound category. The Indian men's, women's and mixed teams made the country proud.
First, the women's compound archery team of Jyoti Surekha, Aditi Goswami and Preneet won the gold medal by defeating Italy 236-226 in a closely contested match.
Sports Authority of India (SAI) media tweeted on Saturday, “Bulls-eye!! The women's compound team of Jyoti, Aditi and Preneet won the gold medal by defeating Italy 236-226 in the Archery World Cup – Stage 1. Congratulations, team!”
India got its second medal in the compound division when the men's team of Abhishek Verma, Prathamesh Phuge and Priyansh defeated Netherlands 238-231 in another tight gold medal match.
SAI Media tweeted, “Second gold in compound division! The men's compound team of Abhishek, Prathamesh and Priyansh won the gold medal by defeating Netherlands 238-231! An important day for Indian archers!”
In the compound division, the mixed team of Abhishek Verma and Jyoti Surekha won the country's third gold medal. In a thrilling gold medal match, the Indian pair defeated Estonia by one point (158-157).
SAI Media tweeted, “Third gold medal for Team India! The compound mixed team of Abhishek Verma and Jyothi Surekha Vennam won the third gold medal for the country by defeating Estonia 158-157 in the #Archery World Cup Stage 1. Dominating Shanghai!”
The first phase of the Archery World Cup will be held in Shanghai from April 23 to 28 while South Korea will host the second phase from May 21 to 26.
Based on the performance in the first two stages of the World Cup, the team will be selected for the third stage to be held from June 18 to 23 in Antalya. The third stage of the World Cup will be the final qualification event for recurve archers before the Olympics to be held from July to August this year.
