APEDA made agricultural exports easy in new markets, focused on fresh fruits, vegetables and grains

New Delhi, March 06 (HS). Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has facilitated agricultural exports to new markets. Along with this, it has focused its attention on fresh fruits, vegetables and grains.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that APEDA, as part of a visionary strategy, has given priority to fresh fruits, vegetables, processed foods and animal products to reduce dependence on certain products and move up the value chain. This also includes a significant shift towards expanding the export basket of these products.

According to the ministry, APEDA has facilitated exports to big markets like Iraq, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia and Britain during April-November 2023. A significant increase was seen in this compared to last year. This remarkable export expansion with growth of 110 per cent, 46 per cent, 18 per cent and 47 per cent respectively underlines the growing global demand for Indian agricultural products in key markets.

According to the Commerce Ministry, as part of its goal to promote inclusivity, APEDA is supporting startups, women entrepreneurs and farmer producer organizations (FPOs or FPCs) by enabling their participation in global programmes. Also, in response to the response from exporters, APEDA is initiating participation in new fairs in emerging markets such as Turkey, South Korea, Kenya, South Africa and Japan. This proactive approach is aimed at facilitating greater market access for Indian exporters and promoting sustainable growth opportunities.
