APAAR ID New Role in Hiring: Now APAAR ID will not only help in studies but will also help in getting a job! Companies will be able to see the real degree of candidates in one click, fraud will be curbed

Launched under the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) of the Central Government ‘APAAR ID’ (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry – APAAR ID) Now enrollment of students in schools and colleges will not be limited only to filling the examination forms. The Ministry of Education and Skill Development has prepared a plan to expand the scope of this 12-digit digital student ID and directly link it to the corporate recruitment and job verification system.

Now from IT companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro to banking, manufacturing and startups, they will be able to use Apar ID to check the academic background of the candidates during the recruitment process. With the consent of the candidate, companies will be able to verify through a secure digital gateway whether the 10th, 12th, graduation or post-graduation degree submitted by the candidate is genuine or not.

AAPAR ID is designed as an ‘Educational Passport’ or ‘Lifelong Academic ID’ for every student in India:

  • Digital Identity: It is a unique and lifelong valid 12 digit identification number, which records all the educational milestones of the student from his/her admission in pre-primary school to higher education and PhD at one place.

  • Affiliation with Academic Bank of Credits (ABC): Apar ID is directly linked to the student’s ‘Academic Bank of Credits’ and DigiLocker account.

  • Digital repository of credits and certificates: Credits earned by students, semester grade sheets, degrees, diplomas, sports certificates and even National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) skill certificates are uploaded directly into it, digitally signed by recognized boards and universities.

Background Verification (BGV) has always been a complex, costly and time-consuming process during hiring in the corporate world. With the arrival of Apar ID, a big change will be seen in this entire system:

  • Background verification will be completed within minutes: Earlier, to verify a candidate’s degree, third-party verification agencies had to send emails or letters to the concerned university or college, which took 15 to 45 days. This work will be completed online within 2 minutes with the consent-based access of the candidate through Apar ID.

  • End of fake degrees and fake marksheets: There has been a rapid increase in the cases of getting jobs on the basis of fake mark sheets and degrees issued from fake universities in the country. Since the data in Apar ID comes directly certified by the respective recognized institution (like CBSE, State Education Board, UGC recognized Universities), there will be zero scope for manipulation or photoshop of the documents at any level.

  • Accurate record of dropouts and skills: If a student has dropped out of college or taken a diploma under the multiple entry-exit system, the company will be able to see his actual qualification and credit score in a transparent manner.

  • Fear of documents getting lost or torn: The compulsion to carry original certificates in heavy files at the time of interview will end. Candidates will be able to mention only their unique Apar ID or its QR code in their Resume (CV).

  • On-the-spot offer letter: Reducing the background verification time will speed up the hiring process of companies, so that selected candidates will not have to wait for weeks for the offer letter and joining date.

  • Promotion of skill based hiring: If the student has done any additional certification or vocational course during college from SWAYAM, NAPS or any recognized government portal, then its credits will also be added to Apar ID, giving freshers an extra edge in the job market.

The government has set strict provisions regarding the confidentiality of students’ educational data:

  • Consent-Based System: No company or employer can directly view the data of a student from his/her Aapar ID. When the company sends the verification request, an OTP or approval request will be sent to the student’s registered mobile and email.

  • Data under student control: Only when the student gives his digital consent, the company will be allowed to view only the necessary academic details.

  • Compatible with the Data Protection Act (DPDP Act): This entire framework works under the strict rules of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, so there is no risk of students’ personal details being leaked or sold for commercial advertisements.

If any student or youth has not yet created his/her Aapdar ID, he/she can generate it himself/herself through these easy steps:

  • First of all go to the official portal of Academic Bank of Credits (abc.gov.in) or ‘Apaar’ portal (apaar.education.gov.in).

  • Login using your DigiLocker credentials.

  • Enter your basic details, school/college name and enrollment number.

  • After OTP verification, the system will automatically generate your 12 digit unique Apar ID, which can be securely downloaded in the DigiLocker app as ‘Issued Document’.
