Chandigarh: After a long time, rejecting the national political parties, independent candidate Anurag Dalal has won the post of President of Punjab Student Council. Anurag Dalal, a chemistry student of Rohtak Chiri, won the student union elections in PU by defeating Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) candidate Prince Chaudhary by a huge margin of 303 votes. After a long period of 45 years in PU student council politics, now the time has come that the students have defeated the student organizations ABVVP, NSUI, SOI and CYSS supported by national political parties and gave victory to an independent candidate. There were nine candidates for the post of President of PU Student Council, including three independent candidates and three girl students. After the voting till 12 noon, Anurag Dalal took the lead in the first round of counting, which continued till the last round. Anurag got 3433 votes while Prince, who gave him a tough fight, had to face defeat by 3130 votes.
The post of vice president was occupied by NSUI, the post of secretary was occupied by INSO and the post of joint secretary was occupied by ABVP.
In the students' union meeting held on Thursday, independent candidates won the post of president, while Archit Garg of NSUI won the post of vice-president, Vineet Yadav of INSO won the post of secretary and Jaswinder Rana of ABVP won the post of joint secretary. In the students' union elections 2024-25, ABVP and NSUI were fighting alone, while INSO had an alliance with CYSS and independent candidate Anurag Dalal had an alliance with SOPU.

A total of 13 student organizations participated in the PU student union elections along with independent candidates. There were nine candidates for the post of principal, five for the post of vice principal, four for the post of secretary and six for the post of joint secretary.
