Kolkata, August 14 (HS). A case of sexual harassment of a girl has come to light from Lake police station area in Kolkata. The victim has knocked the door of Calcutta High Court demanding justice, accusing the police of gross negligence. It is alleged that a person broke the door and entered the house, pointed a gun at the girl's head and sexually harassed her. The girl has also accused the police of inaction and laxity in investigation. On Wednesday, the case was heard in the bench of Justice Rajarshi Bhardwaj of the High Court. The court has ordered an investigation under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioner of Kolkata Police. In the next hearing, the progress report of the investigation will have to be presented to the court.
The victim's husband is an IAS officer, while she herself works in a private company. In the court, the girl told that on the night of July 15, around 11:30 pm, she was returning home from her workplace. At that time, a man in a drunken state was making obscene comments towards her. The girl alleges that the man even reached her house and stopped her on the way and tried to molest her. Somehow, saving herself, she entered the house and pushed the man and made him fall.
The girl says that the next morning the accused again came to her house and broke the door and entered inside. He molested the girl at gunpoint and did obscene acts. When she informed the police about this incident, she was threatened with death.
After the incident, the girl lodged a complaint in the Lake police station area. It is alleged that the police first refused to register her complaint and later there was laxity in the investigation despite the complaint being lodged. During the hearing of this case, the court said that additional monitoring is required on the police investigation. After this, the judge directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police of Kolkata to monitor the investigation and also summoned a report from the state government. The next hearing of this case will be on August 23.
