Bollywood’s ‘Evergreen’ superstar Anil Kapoor has shared a very rare and heart-touching memoir about the iconic bungalow ‘Mannat’ of the King of Hindi cinema i.e. Shahrukh Khan. During a special conversation, Anil Kapoor told that the famous songs and scenes of his superhit film ‘Tezaab’ were once shot there in the historic bungalow in Bandra, Mumbai, which the whole world knows today as Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Mannat’. Anil Kapoor told that at that time when this bungalow was known as ‘Villa Vienna’, it was during the shooting there that he met a young and enthusiastic Shahrukh Khan. According to Anil Kapoor, at that time, such an unbreakable dream and immense confidence was visible in Shahrukh’s eyes which made him realize at that very moment that this boy would one day rule the whole world and himself would become the owner of this historical building.
Recalling the golden era of the 80s, Anil Kapoor told that when he was shooting for his blockbuster film ‘Tezaab’, this bungalow situated on the beach of Bandra was quite popular as a shooting location. At that time, this beautiful villa had its own grandeur and historical identity. Anil Kapoor told that when the camera lights were shining in the background of songs like ‘Ek Do Teen’ and ‘So Gaya Ye Jahaan’ and in the parts of the house, the attraction of that bungalow was visible. He said that with time the name of that place definitely changed and it became ‘Mannat’, but whenever he passes in front of that bungalow or goes there, those golden days and old memories of ‘Tezaab’ still remain fresh in his mind.
Referring to that historical moment, Anil Kapoor said that when Shahrukh Khan had come from Delhi to his dream city Mumbai and was trying to establish his foot in the film industry, both of them had come face to face at that time. Anil Kapoor told that Shahrukh had amazing energy and a unique madness towards his work. During the shooting, Shahrukh used to watch every scene with great attention and a determination was visible on his face which is not seen in common new actors. Anil Kapoor said that when he heard Shahrukh looking at that bungalow and talking, he realized that this young man had big dreams. Later, with his dedication and hard work, Shahrukh not only bought the same villa but also converted it into his dream home ‘Mannat’.
Director N Chandra’s film ‘Tezaab’, released in 1988, took Anil Kapoor’s career to a new peak. Anil Kapoor’s acting in the character of ‘Munna’ and his chemistry with Madhuri Dixit broke all the box office records. Anil Kapoor said that ‘Tezaab’ is very close to his heart and every place and story related to that film is one of the most beautiful treasures of his life. Talking about his relationship with Shahrukh Khan, Anil said that he has always been a fan of Shahrukh’s success. Shahrukh’s journey from a struggling youth to becoming the ‘King of Bollywood’ is the biggest inspiration for every new artist.
