Mumbai: The decision of the Matheran Ecosensitive Zone Monitoring Committee to not provide e-rickshaws to tourists in Matheran has been strongly opposed. It is feared that this decision will have a big impact on the number of tourists and this will ruin the entire economy of the tourist center.
The details of the meeting of this committee have now come to light. It has been suggested that e-rickshaws should be run only for students and local citizens.
The three-month trial e-rickshaw service ended in March. According to activists and local people, e-rickshaws should also be available for tourists. Without this the number of tourists will decrease.
The committee has recommended seeking permission from the Supreme Court for the requirement of 20 e-rickshaws. If permission is granted, e-rickshaw service will be restarted in a trial period of 12 months.
Let us tell you that earlier it was decided to give the contract of e-rickshaw to an external agency. But, instead a demand arose that only old hand rickshaw pullers should be allowed to do so.
