Anant Chaturdashi 2026 Date & Ganesh Visarjan Muhurat: Ganpati Bappa will bid farewell with moist eyes on Anant Chaturdashi on 25th September.

The time of immersion of the 10-day Mahaparva of Lord Shri Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, who was installed in homes and grand pandals with drums and immense devotion on the Chaturthi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month (14 September 2026), has come near. According to Sanatan Panchang, the biggest and major culmination of Ganeshotsav occurs on the holy day of ‘Anant Chaturdashi’. On this day, devotees bid an emotional farewell to their idol with moist eyes and immerse him in the water with the chants of ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya, come next year, come soon’.

Immersed in water, Bappa returns to Mount Kailash to his parents—Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati—taking with him all the troubles and troubles of his devotees.

This holy day of Anant Chaturdashi in the year 2026 Friday, September 25, 2026 Is falling to. This day is not only known for the immersion of Lord Ganesha, but there is also an ancient tradition of worshiping Lord Satyanarayan (the infinite form of Shri Hari Vishnu), the protector of the world, who rests on the bed of Sheshnag in Kshirsagar and tying Rakshasutra (Infinite Sutra) consisting of fourteen knots on the wrist.

In Hinduism, dates are decided on the basis of the principle of sunrise and sunset ‘Udayatithi’ (Udaya Tithi). The astronomical details of the beginning and end of Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturdashi Tithi in the year 2026 are as follows:

Since Chaturdashi Tithi is present at the time of sunrise on 25th September and will remain in effect for almost the entire day (till 07:36 PM), hence Anant Chaturdashi fast, Shri Vishnu Puja and Ganesh Visarjan will be observed unanimously across the country on 25th September.

According to the scriptures, the farewell and procession of Lord Ganesha should be taken out only in auspicious, Labh, Amrit or Char Choghadiya Muhurtas. You can do immersion at any auspicious time of the day or night except 1 hour 31 minutes of Rahukaal (10:43 AM to 12:14 PM):

• Morning Muhurat (Chara, Labh, Amrit): From 06:11 AM to 10:42 AM (This is the best and popular time for morning immersion procession).

• Afternoon Muhurta (Auspicious Choghadiya): From 12:14 PM to 01:44 PM (immersion can be done in this auspicious Choghadiya as soon as Rahukaal ends).

• Afternoon and evening Muhurta (variables and benefits): From 04:44 PM to 07:44 PM (excellent for evening immersion of devotees and public pandals).

• Night time (auspicious, amrit, char): From 09:14 PM to 12:15 AM (September 26) midnight.

The idol of Lord Ganesha is not immersed directly in water, rather his ‘Uttarpūjā’ is performed just before immersion. It is believed that through Uttarpuja we thank Bappa for his hospitality for 10 days and pray to him to go:

1. Final Maha Aarti and Bhog: On the day of immersion, after morning bath, bathe Bappa with Ganga water, offer fresh Durva Dal, red hibiscus flowers, vermillion, modak, gram flour laddus and coconut and sing the last aarti with the family.

2. Apology (Kshama Prarthana): With folded hands pray to God: “O remover of obstacles, please forgive us with your grace for whatever mistakes we may have committed knowingly or unknowingly in our service or worship during these 10 days and maintain happiness and prosperity in our home and family.”

3. Packing Patheya (Travel Material): At the time of farewell, tie some Akshat, Durva, turmeric lump, Panchmeva and coins in a clean red or yellow cloth and keep it in the hand or near the idol of Bappa. It is considered as Patheya (offering on the way) of Dev Yatra.

4. Moving the statue towards north: After completion of Uttarpuja, gently move the idol a few inches forward from its original place or towards the north. The movement of the statue indicates that permission for immersion has now been granted.

5. Face home: While leaving the house for immersion, keep Bappa’s face towards the main door of the house (looking inside the house), so that his blessings always remain on your house.

On the one hand, Lord Ganesha is bid farewell on the day of Anant Chaturdashi, while on the other hand, in Sanatan Dharma, this day is dedicated to the ‘Anant Swaroop’ of Lord Vishnu. During the Mahabharata period, when the Pandavas were wandering in 12 years of exile and 1 year of unknown existence after losing everything in the game of gambling, then Lord Shri Krishna advised Yudhishthir to observe ‘Anant Chaturdashi Vrat’ on Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturdashi to regain his lost Rajlakshmi and honour.

• Importance of 14 knots: On this day, cotton or silk thread is dyed in kumkum and turmeric water and 14 knots are tied in it. These 14 knots represent the 14 worlds of the universe—Bhuh, Bhuvah, Swah, Mahah, Janah, Tapah, Satyam (7 higher worlds) and Atal, Vittal, Sutal, Talatal, Mahatal, Rasatal, Patal (7 underworlds).

• Rules for wearing: By placing this sutra at the feet of Lord Vishnu, it is invoked with the mantra ‘Om Anantaya Namah’. After this the men use it in their right hand wrist I and women have it in their left wrist I tie it in.

• 14 years of freedom from troubles: It is believed that the person who recites this sutra and listens to the fasting story of the truthful sage Kaundinya and his pious wife Sushila, poverty, disease and the sins of 14 years due to destiny are eliminated from his life.

To maintain the cleanliness of natural water bodies (holy rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Gomti, ponds and sea), emphasis is now being laid on eco-friendly immersion across the country:

• Immersion in bucket or tub at home: If your Ganesha idol is made of pure clay (Shadu Mati), then gently immerse Bappa in a clean bucket, tub or pot filled with pure water mixed with Ganga water in the balcony or courtyard of your house. The soil will dissolve within a few hours. Immerse that sacred soil in a Tulsi plant, pot or garden.

• Use of local artificial pools: Float the idols only in the artificial water tanks built by the Municipal Corporation and development authorities near major intersections and ghats.

• Do not throw Nirmalya in water: Do not throw flowers, garlands, clothes, Kalava and coconut shells (Nirmalya) used in puja directly into water along with plastic bags. Collect the flowers separately and use them as organic fertilizer (compost).

• Do not immerse permanent metal idols: Keep in mind that only the clay idol is immersed. If you have brass, silver, ashtadhatu or marble Ganapati in your puja room, then they are not immersed; They are reinstated only symbolically by bathing them with Ganga water.

This day of Anant Chaturdashi is also a major dividing point from the point of view of Sanatan Panchang. With the conclusion of this Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month, the festive atmosphere of the Hindu calendar turns into a period of remembrance and gratitude to the ancestors. Mahalaya and the 16-day ‘Pitru Paksha’ (Shraddha Paksha) will begin the very next day after Anant Chaturdashi ends on 25th September, i.e. 26th September 2026 (Bhadrapada Purnima). During this period, there will be a pause on all auspicious activities till October 10 and ancestors will be remembered through Tarpan-Pind Daan.
