Amritsar News: The POCSO Fast Track Court of Amritsar has imposed a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh and the harsh punishment of death on the accused father for brutally murdering his own six-year-old daughter.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Triptjot Kaur of POCSO Fast Track Court charged 36-year-old Pratap Singh, a resident of village Lakhuwal in Baba Bakala, under Section 302 and POCSO Act for the heinous crime committed against his own six-year-old daughter. Not agreeing with the arguments given by defense counsel Amandeep Singh Bajwa during the hearing of the case registered under Section 6 of the Act for the crime committed on the intervening night of January 4-5, 2020, awarded death penalty under Section 302 and fine of one lakh rupees and life imprisonment and severe fine of fifty rupees under Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
Both the sentences will run simultaneously. The accused's wife lived separately from him with her children due to family dispute and even on the day of the incident, the accused used to take his daughter with him from time to time. On the evening of January 4, he took the girl and did not return to drop her and raped the girl in a forest area and killed her and hung her body from a tree and kept roaming around in an intoxicated state.
He himself informed his wife about this incident that he had killed the girl. In this regard, a case was registered in Khalchian Police Station on 05 January 2020 on the basis of the complaint of the accused's wife Ramanjit Kaur.
