MP Gurjit Singh Aujla: MP Gurjit Singh Aujla held a meeting with the Corporation Commissioner and sewage water supply officials regarding the pollution spread in Amritsar city. Former MLA Jugal Kishore Sharma was also present in the meeting. The pollution spread in every part of the city and complaints of sewerage water being mixed in drinking water were discussed in the meeting.
MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that in the ongoing dispute between the corporation and Everda Company, both the parties are blaming each other but people are getting troubled. There are heaps of garbage everywhere in the city. On which the officials told MP Aujla that a state level committee has been formed by Everda Company to increase the tipping fee and clean the Bhaktanwala dump along with garbage management, which will submit its report regarding the garbage management of the city.
According to Aujla, the meeting also discussed the garbage dumps in the city and the use of MP funds. He said that he has also spoken to the Chief Secretary, who is also reviewing the matter. The state level committee will decide how much the Awarda company will pay for garbage management and how the Bhaktanwala dump will be emptied.
He said that the condition of the city remains serious, in which Chhaherta, Sultanwind, 88 feet road, Gumtala, Mahal, Sharma Colony, Annagarh and other areas are full of pollution. Not only this, garbage is spread everywhere in the posh areas. Sewage is getting mixed in drinking water in many parts of the city.
MP Aujla said that plantation was discussed in the meeting. A contract of Rs 3.5 crore was signed with G-20 Improvement Trust for planting trees. In which these plants were also to be taken care of but not a single plant is visible. Various agencies are working in the city, like Airport Road is under the Public Works Department. In such a situation, meetings will be held with every department to provide basic facilities in the city.
He has asked the officials to plant ornamental plants on the footpaths, in which flowering plants should be planted according to the season. MP Aujla said that this project is going on on the Valla Canal with the help of Baba Kashmir Singh and Parliamentary Fund. Along with this, a project has been asked to build an underpass on the railway line to take the road on both sides of the canal from Taranwala Bridge to Valla. Apart from this, the water purification plant under construction in Valla was also discussed.
