Kolkata, 16 October (Hindustan Reporter). Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be on Kolkata tour in the last week of this month. Here he will prepare the strategy for the upcoming assembly by-elections for the BJP unit in West Bengal. If everything goes as per plan, Shah will reach the city on October 24. This information was given by a member of the state committee of BJP.

“Apart from finalizing the party's by-poll strategies, he will also give directions to increase the party's membership numbers in West Bengal,” the BJP state committee member said. As per the schedule, Shah will reach Kolkata on October 24 and hold meetings with elected MPs, MLAs and top party leaders from the state on the same day. These by-elections are very important for both Trinamool Congress and BJP, because these elections are held in Kolkata's R.G. The taxes are being paid after the rape and murder of a junior doctor in the medical college and hospital in the month of August.

The state committee member said, “R.G. Due to tax crisis, new membership campaign has been stalled in West Bengal for the last two months. Now we are waiting for the guidelines from the Union Home Minister, so that we can get clarity regarding the membership campaign and the strategy for the upcoming by-elections.”

By-elections are to be held on six assembly seats in the state on November 13. These seats are – Sitai in Cooch Behar district, Madarihat in Alipurduar district, Naihati and Haroa in North 24 Parganas, Medinipur in West Midnapore and Taldangra in Bankura district. Counting of votes on all these six seats will take place on November 23. These seats became vacant because MLAs from these seats were elected in the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year. Except for the Madarihat seat (which was held by the BJP), the remaining five seats were won by the Trinamool Congress in the 2021 assembly elections.
