Wakf Amendment Bill: Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju has introduced the amended Waqf Bill in Parliament today. The opposition, including Congress and SP MPs, has protested against it. Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav raised questions on this bill. He also called this bill an attack on religious faith and anti-democracy. Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah lashed out at Akhilesh Yadav and said that the rights of the Speaker are being taken away.

What did Akhilesh Yadav say on the bill?

Kannauj MP Akhilesh Yadav said that the resource bill brought in the Waqf Board has been brought under a well-planned conspiracy. What is the purpose of including non-Muslims in the Waqf Board? Read the history, we all know what he did when he was the District Magistrate. The rights of minorities are being taken away. The BJP is completely scared and frustrated. For this, they are bringing this bill only to satisfy some staunch supporters. Meanwhile, when Home Minister Amit Shah talked about the rights of the Speaker, he got angry at Akhilesh Yadav.

Home Minister Amit Shah leaves

While talking about the bill, there was a heated argument between Akhilesh Yadav and Amit Shah. Actually, Akhilesh Yadav said to the Lok Sabha Speaker, I have heard that your rights are also being taken away. Now we all have to fight for you too. Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah stood up from his seat and objected to him while interrupting him and said that you are insulting the House. You are not the protector of the rights of the Chairman. There is no point here.

Opposition to the protests

During the monsoon session of Parliament, the Modi government has introduced an amendment bill in the Lok Sabha to amend the Waqf Board Act. There is an uproar in the Parliament regarding this bill. According to the government, this bill is being brought to take care of Waqf properties. However, opposition forces like Congress, TMC, DMK, SP and National Conference have opposed this bill and have appealed to send the bill to the Standing Committee.

Section 40 of the Wakf Act 1995 was deleted

In the amended bill, a person who has been practicing Islam for at least five years will be able to donate his movable and immovable property to the Waqf. Waqf-al-Aulad cannot deprive women of the right to inheritance. Section 40 of the Waqf Act 1995 is being removed. Under this Act, the Waqf Board had the right to declare any property as Waqf property. But now the property rights are at stake. Section 40 of the Waqf Act is the most controversial. Section 40 provides that if the Waqf Board considers a property as Waqf property, it will take a decision after giving notice and investigating. It can also decide whether the Waqf is Shia or Sunni. There is only the right to go to the tribunal against the decision of the Waqf Board. However, in the amended bill, the Collector or Deputy Clerk will be the Survey Commissioner.
