Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday greeted Assam Rifles soldiers and their families on their raising day. The Assam Rifles, formed in 1835, is also known as the 'Cutcher Levy' militia. At present, Assam Rifles is deployed in the most remote and backward areas to ensure the safety of local residents.
On the occasion of Rising Day, Amit Shah wrote on 'X', 'Best wishes to the soldiers of Assam Rifles and their family members on their raising day. The ever alert and victorious power stands as a shield for the internal security of the country and to keep the people of the North-East safe. Salute to the lion hearted soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the motherland. Apart from Amit Shah, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also extended his wishes and said the force has played an important role in maintaining peace in the region. Sarma wrote, 'Congratulations to all the soldiers of Assam Rifles, India's oldest paramilitary service, on their raising day. Known as the 'Sentinel of the North East', the force has played an important role in maintaining peace in the region and helping people in times of need.
Since its establishment in 1960 with 17 battalions, the force has grown significantly. Now it has 46 battalions. In addition, it maintains a training center and several logistics units. Through its long service in the tribal areas, Assam Rifles has earned the full confidence of the public and has contributed significantly to their integration into the national framework.
