New Delhi, June 3 (HS). Amit Panghal (51kg) and Jasmine Lamboria (women's 57kg) secured two more quota places on Sunday by registering impressive victories in their respective quarterfinal bouts on the final day of the second World Olympic Boxing Qualifiers in Bangkok.
With three quota places, including Nishant Dev (71kg) from the previous qualifiers, the country secured six boxing berths at Paris 2024. Nikhat Zareen (50kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg) and Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) had secured the three spots at the Asian Games. Jasmine, a reserve in 60kg for the Bangkok qualifiers, was asked to lose three kg to fit into 57kg after Parveen Hooda lost her quota nearly two weeks ago due to her whereabouts not being known.
The slim Jasmine performed brilliantly by defeating Marine Camara of Mali 5-0 and secured the quota in a brilliant manner.
In a contest between southpaws, Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Jasmine maintained her composure and range to execute her head and body shots well. Her nimble footwork, especially while retreating, helped her evade the Marine's blows and counter-attack on her way to victory.
Amit made a brilliant comeback and defeated Chinese player Liu Chuang 5-0 and made it to his second consecutive Olympics.
Sachin Siwach (57kg) failed to secure a quota place and lost 5-0 to Munarbek Seyitbek Ulu of Kyrgyzstan.
