The impact of scorching sun and severe heat wave is clearly visible on life in Patna, the capital of Bihar. In view of the rising temperatures, District Magistrate (DM) Thiagarajan SM has taken an important decision, giving priority to the health and safety of school children. A new order has been issued for all private, government schools, pre-schools and Anganwadi centers in Patna district.
Highlights of the new order of Patna District Administration
Complete ban till class 5: On educational activities up to class 5 in all government and private schools in Patna district. May 22 (Friday) to May 26 (Tuesday) Till now it has been completely banned.
Change in time from 6th to 8th: Schools where classes 6 to 8 are being taught will have to change their timings. Holidays for students of these classes 10:30 am Till now it will be mandatory to do so, so that the children can escape from the scorching heat of the afternoon.
Scope of order: This instruction will be equally applicable to all government, private schools, Anganwadi centers and pre-schools.
Temperature crosses 40°C, weather department warns
The maximum temperature in Patna crossed the 40 degree Celsius mark on Thursday. According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather is likely to remain dry and there will be intense sunlight and heat wave in most of the districts of Bihar including Patna for the next 3-4 days. In view of the possibility of further increase in heat, the district administration has also issued an alert for common citizens.

The maximum impact of extreme heat is being seen in the districts of South Bihar. Keeping in mind the safety of children, the administration there is also strict:

The administration has appealed to the citizens to take special precautions to protect themselves from the scorching heat:
Avoid going out in the afternoon: Do not leave the house unnecessarily in the afternoon amid strong sunlight and heat wave.
Stay hydrated: To keep yourself and children hydrated, consume more water, juice, coconut water, lemon water and fruits like watermelon.
Special vigilance: Protect small children, pregnant women and the elderly from direct sunlight and keep them indoors.
Do not walk barefoot: Avoid going out barefoot in the sun.
Parents have been advised to keep in touch with the concerned school administration regarding the school timing of their children._
