Bollywood’s ‘Singham’ i.e. Ajay Devgan is creating a huge stir at the box office these days through his latest comedy entertainer ‘Dhamaal 4’. Despite a direct clash with Akshay Kumar’s multi-starrer film ‘Welcome to the Jungle’, ‘Dhamal 4’ remains the first choice of the audience and film critics. On the basis of excellent reviews received from critics, the film has registered a great opening of more than Rs 13.75 crore on its first day. Amidst this latest success of Ajay Devgan, the debate has intensified among cinema lovers and trade analysts regarding the opening day collections of the last 5 released films of the superstar, in which one film had created history by collecting Rs 43 crores on the very first day, while there was another film which had collected only Rs 1.5 crores.

De De Pyaar De 2 and Son of Sardar 2: A journey of averages and flops at the box office

Just before ‘Dhamaal 4’ hit the box office, Ajay Devgan was seen on screen with the sequel of his superhit romantic-comedy ‘De De Pyaar De 2’ in November 2025. The film’s excellent comic timing and strong star cast was greatly appreciated by the audience, leading to a net collection of Rs 9.11 crore on the first day. The film proved to be an ‘average’ grosser at the box office, collecting Rs 74.23 crore in the domestic market. At the same time, before this, his film ‘Son of Sardaar 2’, released in August 2025, completely failed to woo the audience. Ajay’s fresh pairing with actress Mrunal Thakur also could not do any special charisma and this film, which had an opening of Rs 7.25 crore, was declared a ‘flop’ after reaching a lifetime collection of just Rs 47.03 crore.

The film made a spectacular net collection of Rs 19.25 crore on its opening day itself. Maintaining its strong hold at the box office, this crime-drama film made a total lifetime earning of Rs 173.44 crore and stamped itself as a great ‘Superhit’ film in the trade winds.

Azad’s box office disaster vs Singham Again’s historic opening of Rs 43 crores

Ajay Devgan’s production and acting portfolio also saw a big ups and downs during the year 2024-2025. Ajay Devgan made the ambitious film ‘Azaad’ to launch his nephew Aman Devgan and Raveena Tandon’s daughter Rasha Thadani in Bollywood. However, the film completely failed to attract the audience to the theaters and turned out to be a huge flop with a very disappointing opening of just Rs 1.50 crore, settling for a total lifetime collection of Rs 7.42 crore.

On the contrary, the much-awaited film ‘Singham Again’ of Rohit Shetty’s cop-universe had registered a historic and biggest opening of Rs 43.50 crore on its very first day, breaking all the box office records. However, despite the huge budget and high expectations, the film was rated only an ‘average’ film at the box office by trade experts, despite earning a bumper total of Rs 247.86 crore.
