PM Modi Ajmer Sharif Chadar 1735

Amid the ongoing controversy between the claims of Dargah Sharif and Shiv temple in Ajmer, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent a chadar to be offered at Ajmer Sharif Dargah. After becoming the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has been continuously sending chadars on the occasion of Urs in Ajmer Sharif. This time this sheet was handed over to Union Minority Minister Kiren Rijiju and BJP Minority Morcha President Jamal Siddiqui. They will deliver it to the Dargah.

PM Modi’s connection with Ajmer Sharif

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has followed the tradition of sending chadar on the occasion of Urs to Ajmer Sharif every year since becoming the Prime Minister in 2014. This is his 11th time that he has sent the sheet. This is his first sheet after forming the government for the third time in 2023. Last year, during the 812th Urs, the PM had sent the chadar through Smriti Irani and Jamal Siddiqui.

Background of the controversy over declaring the Dargah as a Shiva temple

In recent times, Ajmer Sharif Dargah has been embroiled in controversies. The controversy began when a Rajasthan court accepted a petition claiming that the Ajmer Sharif Dargah is actually an ancient temple of Lord Shiva. Accepting the petition, the court issued notice to the concerned parties.

After this, Ajmer Dargah Sharif Committee appealed to reject this petition. The hearing on the case is to be held on January 24. This controversy remains a topic of discussion at religious and social levels.

Historical and religious importance of Ajmer Sharif

Ajmer Sharif Dargah is one of the most famous Sufi Dargahs of India. Urs is organized here every year on the death anniversary of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, in which lakhs of devotees participate. This year’s Urs began on December 28 and is the 813th Urs.

Tradition of offering Urs and Chadar

In Islam, offering a sheet on the tomb during Urs is considered a sacred tradition. It is considered a symbol of receiving blessings and fulfilling wishes. This tradition of offering chadar in Ajmer Sharif is very popular not only among common devotees but also among political and social personalities.

This step of Prime Minister Modi shows his commitment towards religious tolerance and cultural traditions. However, this decision has become even more important amid the ongoing controversy regarding Shiva temple.

This controversy related to Ajmer Dargah and PM Modi’s tradition of sending chadar will hold a special place in religious and political discussions in the times to come.
