The Modi government has put a stop on the decision of lateral entry. The advertisement issued by UPSC on 17 August has been put on hold. The central government is now considering implementing reservation in lateral entry. Reservation for OBC/SC/ST can be introduced in lateral entry.

There is no reservation in lateral entry

UPSC has announced recruitment for 45 posts in central government ministries. All the posts were to be filled through lateral entry. There is no reservation in lateral entry recruitment. A political debate has erupted over this.

Recruitment was to be done through lateral entry in 24 ministries

UPSC has recently issued an advertisement. In this, appointments were to be made through lateral entry on various senior posts in the central government. These posts include the posts of Joint Secretary, Director and Deputy Secretary in 24 ministries. Applications were invited for a total of 45 posts.

Rahul Gandhi and NDA leaders also raised questions

A new debate has started on lateral entry in bureaucracy. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and SP MP Akhilesh Yadav raised questions on the reservation issue. NDA government leaders Chirag Paswan and KC Tyagi also spoke against lateral entry.

What is Lateral Entry?

Lateral entry is also called direct entry. It involves appointing people in government service who are highly specialized in their field. These are not from IAS-PCS or any government cadre. Based on the experience of these people, the government deploys them in its bureaucracy.
