New Delhi, September 10 (HS). The French Orient Express yacht was the first of the six hopefuls to be eliminated after the final day of racing in the second round-robin series of the ongoing America's Cup in Barcelona on Monday.
The America's Cup is a sailing competition and the oldest international competition still operating in any sport.
The French needed a win to have a chance of reaching the semi-finals after bad weather in Barcelona postponed Sunday's race, but they were beaten by Britain's INEOS-Britannia boat and were eliminated after finishing last in the six-boat group with just one win from two round-robin series.
Italian Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli was disqualified after going beyond course limits while preparing to face Switzerland's Alinghi Red Bull Racing yacht in the day's second race.
The Swiss have now secured a place in the semi-finals, but the disqualification means Luna Rossa has missed the chance to top the group.
Monday's other race had no bearing on qualification, and Team Emirates-New Zealand defeated NYC America Magic.
