The United Nations and America have expressed concern over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) of the Indian Government. On Tuesday (12 March 2024), the United Nations described CAA as discriminatory. America says that it is keeping a close eye on this matter. A US State Department spokesperson said, “We are shocked by the CAA notification published on March 11.” We are considering the whole matter in depth as to how it will be implemented there.
“Respecting religious freedom and applying equal treatment under the law to all communities are fundamental democratic principles,” a US State Department spokesperson said.
Not only this, human rights activists and their associated organizations are also being targeted due to the CAA law implemented in India. Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have described the CAA as discriminatory against Muslims.
Let us tell you that the current government of India had introduced CAA in the Parliament in 2019. During this period he got success in both the houses. However, during that period violent clashes were also seen at many places. However, the government remained firm on its decision. There was a possibility that CAA law would be implemented in the country before the Lok Sabha elections. Exactly the same thing happened. Lok Sabha elections are going to be held in India soon. A few months before that, i.e. on March 11, the Central Government had issued its notification regarding the law.
Under the Citizenship Amendment Act, Indian citizenship will be granted to people of other religions, including Hindus and Sikhs, except people from the Muslim community of India's neighboring countries Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
