Pakistan is a stronghold of terrorists and India-Pakistan relations are in the news every day. India has made it clear that talks cannot take place in an atmosphere of terror. But now a big statement has come from the US regarding India-Pakistan relations. The US said that it supports direct talks between India and Pakistan. The pace and framework of the talks should be decided by both countries.
US supports
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a press conference that America values its important relations with both India and Pakistan. He said that we support direct talks with India and Pakistan.
What is America's stance on terrorism?
Responding to another question, Miller said the US and Pakistan have shared interests in combating regional security threats. “We remain engaged with Pakistan through high-level counterterrorism dialogue on security issues, including counterterrorism capacity-building programs,” he said. “We have been communicating regularly with Pakistani leaders on counterterrorism operations and will continue to have expanded discussions on regional security through our annual counterterrorism dialogue and other bilateral consultations,” Miller said.
How are India-Pakistan relations?
It is worth noting that India and Pakistan have a long history of tense relations, mainly due to the Kashmir issue and Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. Pakistan downgraded relations with India in 2019 after India revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
