Bangladesh Political Crisis: The US has called the allegations against it over the coup and political turmoil in Bangladesh baseless. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, “The US is not involved in the coup in Bangladesh. Any such communication or report is merely a rumor.” The people of Bangladesh should decide the future of the country's government. This is our stand.

Know what matters

Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reacted for the first time after resigning from her post on August 11 and leaving the country. During this, she blamed America for the rebellion in Bangladesh and the condition of the country. However, on her statement and allegations, America said, 'We have no hand in the coup in Bangladesh.'

Sheikh Hasina alleged that, 'America wanted St. Martin Island. If it had given it, my government would have been in power today. But not accepting America's condition means that not doing so will cost them dearly. Through this island, America wants to establish its dominance in the Bay of Bengal.'

Foreign policy experts and the Wilson Center denied the allegation

Michael Kugelman, a US-based foreign policy expert and director of the South Asia Institute at the Wilson Center, clarified Sheikh Hasina's allegations. He said, 'The US completely rejects Sheikh Hasina's claims and allegations. No evidence has been found to support these claims. The Hasina government's harsh action against the protesters has further inflamed the movement.'
