Bhopal, July 13 (HS). BJP candidate Kamlesh Shah has won the Amarwada assembly by-election in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh by 3252 votes. There were many upsets in the counting of votes held at PG College here on Saturday. BJP was ahead in the first three rounds. After this, Congress candidate Dhirendra Shah took the lead and maintained his lead till the 17th round, but in the last three rounds, BJP took the lead and finally won.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Kaul said that votes were cast at 332 polling booths on July 10 for the Amarwara assembly by-election. On Saturday, the counting of votes cast by voters in EVMs at these 332 polling booths was completed in 20 rounds on 17 tables. After the 20th round, BJP candidate Kamlesh Shah got a total of 83 thousand 36 votes, while his nearest rival Congress candidate Dhiren Shah got 79 thousand 784 votes. In this way, the BJP candidate won by 3252 votes. At the same time, Devraven Bhalavi of Gondwana Ganatantra Party remained at third place. He got 28 thousand 638 votes. NOTA also got 3399 votes.
Congress expressed apprehension of irregularities in the last two rounds of counting. Due to this, the counting of votes was stopped for some time. Actually, angry Congress supporters created a ruckus due to the stoppage of announcement of election results and demanded re-counting.
Kamlesh Shah is a three-time MLA and resigned from the post of Congress MLA in the Lok Sabha elections, after which a by-election was held here. A total of nine candidates were in the fray in the Amarwara assembly by-election.
