New Delhi, August 9 (HS). Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat won the bronze medal in wrestling at the Paris Olympics 2024. Aman defeated Puerto Rico's Darian Toi Cruz by a margin of 13-5 in the bronze medal match played on Friday. Earlier, 21-year-old wrestler Aman had performed strongly in the pre-quarterfinals and quarterfinals on Thursday but lost in a one-sided fashion to top seed Rei Higuchi of Japan in the semi-finals of the men's 57 kg freestyle category. India has so far won a total of six medals including five bronze and one silver in the Paris Olympics.

Aman was leading 6-3 in the first round itself. In the second round, Aman further increased this lead and did not give Cruz any chance. In this way Aman Sehrawat won. Aman was the only male wrestler from India in the Paris Olympics. However, he maintained the streak of medals in wrestling.

India has been winning medals in wrestling in every Olympics since the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Sushil Kumar won bronze in 2008, Sushil won silver and Yogeshwar Dutt won bronze in 2012, Sakshi Malik won bronze in 2016, Ravi Dahiya won silver and Bajrang Punia won bronze in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. This was Aman's first Olympics and he has won a bronze medal in his very first Olympics. Aman thus opened India's medal account in wrestling at the Olympics. He has brought happiness to India which was in despair after Vinesh Phogat was disqualified.
