Kolkata: A petition has been filed in the Calcutta High Court accusing the female sarpanch of Malda, West Bengal, of being a Bangladeshi. The petition filed by Rehana Sultana claims that the sarpanch of Malda’s Rashidabad Gram Panchayat is of Bangladeshi origin, but he contested the elections with false documents claiming to be an Indian. Now when the issue of Bangladeshi infiltrators is in discussion, BJP has alleged that TMC is making Bangladeshi infiltrators as sarpanches.

The High Court has sought response to the petition filed by Rehana Sultana, in which it has been alleged that Lovely Khatoon, the president of Rashidabad Gram Panchayat of Harishchandrapur in Malda district, is a Bangladeshi. Rehana Sultana had earlier contested the Sarpanch election against Lovely Khatoon but lost. After winning the elections, Lovely Khatoon joined TMC. After which Rehana Sultana had filed an application in the High Court demanding action to cancel the election of Lovely Khatoon.

There are allegations that Lovely Khatoon’s real name is Nazia Sheikh, Lovely entered India after TMC came to power, her name was included in the voter list in 2015. And in 2018, he created his Indian identity through fake birth. After which he claimed to be an Indian citizen by calling local resident Sheikh Mustafa as his father. The people whom Lovely used as witnesses have also claimed in the High Court that their signatures were forged. The people of Baghmara claim that we know all the children of Sheikh Mustafa but Lovely Khatoon has no relation with his family. Local BJP leaders are alleging that TMC leaders are giving shelter to Bangladeshi infiltrators.
