Nainital, 08 August (HS). Local residents of Amiya village of the district have alleged that a person has illegally purchased the land of the Scheduled Caste people and is setting up a stone crusher there. The villagers say that this crusher is being built very close to the houses of the people in the rural area at a distance of only 10-20 meters, which is against the rules. In this regard, the villagers have written a letter to the Divisional Commissioner and District Magistrate including Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale.
Villagers allege that Dharmendra Bisht, a resident of Hathikhal in Lalkuan tehsil area, is forcibly digging up land in the fields of Tokanaya village of Amiya without making proper arrangements for the road by threatening people and constructing a road with a JCB. They say that strict action should be taken in this matter and the land of the Scheduled Caste people should be protected from land mafias.
Apart from this, minerals are being stored illegally in Gram Sabha Dahra by running JCB and Poklane machines. According to the rules, there should be a distance of at least 300 meters between the mineral storage site and residential area, temple-mosque. Whereas here this storage is being done at a distance of only 5 to 10 meters. Due to this, the water level of the river has gone down considerably. This can cause water problem. The villagers have requested the Kumaon Commissioner and District Magistrate Nainital to take cognizance of the matter and immediately cancel the permission of JCB and Poklane machines and take appropriate action. It is also told that in this regard, Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Ramdas Athawale has written a letter to District Magistrate Nainital Vandana and asked to look into the matter. Villagers including Nirmal, Ganesh Chandra, Manoj, Golu, Harish, Pankaj, Arjun, Narayan Ram, Harish Chandra, Sunil Kumar, Suresh Kumar have signed the letter.
