Weather Update: Winter is coming. But before that, the Meteorological Department has once again issued an alert regarding heavy rain. According to the Meteorological Department, there has been a warning of heavy rain in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu for the next four days. Schools and colleges were supposed to reopen after the Dussehra holidays, but in view of the weather conditions, it has been decided to keep them closed again. Keeping in view the weather conditions in the next 4 days, governments are busy making arrangements for the safety of their citizens. Keeping in mind the safety of the people, the state governments have appealed to everyone to stay in their homes and avoid unnecessary travel.
Andhra Pradesh CM gave instructions regarding security arrangements
Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu interacted with collectors, ministers and officials through video conferencing and directed them to send alert messages of heavy rain on the mobile phones of citizens. He has also given instructions to pay attention to the safety of embankments of ponds and canals and to install necessary warning boards near rivers and canals. To avoid any kind of loss, officials have been asked to set up a control room for quick action. CM has also clearly said that schools and colleges will also be kept closed if necessary.
IT companies in Tamil Nadu advised to work from home
The Meteorological Department has also issued a red alert regarding heavy rains in Tamil Nadu till October 16. Schools have been closed due to rain in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpattu. Along with this, the Chief Minister asked the officials to advise the employees of IT companies in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpattu districts to work from home. IMD has warned that people should stay at home and not go to flood affected areas. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rain in Tamil Nadu in the next three days. Keeping this in mind, the administration has activated emergency services in all the districts and asked NDRF, SDRF and police personnel to be ready for relief operations.
Orange alert issued in Tamil Nadu
“Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal between October 12-16, with the heaviest rainfall likely to occur on October 14-15,” the IMD said. Orange alert has been issued for October 14-16.” The Meteorological Department said that a low pressure area formed in the south-east of the Bay of Bengal at 5:30 am on Monday. Over the next two days, the system is expected to transform into a well-marked low pressure area and move north-westwards towards North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and South Andhra Pradesh coasts.
Government prepared for heavy rain
On Monday, the Chief Minister had called a meeting to review the monsoon preparations. In the meeting, Chennai Corporation Commissioner said that 990 pumps and 57 tractors equipped with pump sets are on standby. Apart from this, 36 motorboats, 46 metric tons of bleach powder, 25 metric tons of lime powder and phenol have been made ready for immediate use. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin surveyed the banks of Narayanapuram lake and Ambedkar Road canals in view of the forecast of heavy rain on Monday. “Since it is raining heavily in various parts of Chennai, as per the instructions of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, we have conducted a survey on the banks of Narayanapuram lake between Pallikaranai and Kovilambakkam,” he said.
Yellow alert issued in Puducherry
The Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in Telangana for the next two to four days. In view of the rain, a yellow alert has been issued here. In Puducherry, Education Minister A Nammasivayam has given instructions to keep all schools and colleges closed in Puducherry and Karaikal on October 15 due to the warning of heavy rain.
