Alcaraz, Swiatek, Tsitsipas, Sinner in last 16 | Live Updates, Unveiling the Latest India News Trends

Paris, June 1 (HS). Two-time Grand Slam winner Carlos Alcaraz defeated Sebastian Korda in straight sets to enter the last 16 of the French Open for the third consecutive year on Friday.

The defending Wimbledon champion, playing in the night session at Roland Garros for the first time this year, beat the 27th-seeded American 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 and will now face the winner of the match between another American, Ben Shelton (seeded 15th) and 21st-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada, in the round of 16.

The 21-year-old Alcaraz reached the semi-finals in Paris last year, where he was beaten by eventual champion Novak Djokovic, and beat Korda at the same stage at the clay major in 2022.

“It was a really good match. I think I played much, much, much better than the last match. It was something I really wanted: to be involved in the rallies, get good points, feel like myself on the court, and I think I did that really well,” Alcaraz said in an oncourt interview after the win.

Italy's Matteo Arnaldi caused the biggest upset of the day, as the unseeded player defeated 6th seed Andrey Rublev to reach the round of 16 at Roland Garros for the first time.

In three impressive sets in which he barely faltered, the 23-year-old beat Rublev 7-6 (6), 6-2, 6-4 to send him packing in the third round for the second consecutive time in Paris.

It was the first win for world No. 35 Arnaldi over a top 20 opponent on clay or a top 10 opponent at a major.

Arnold will face clay specialist Stefanos Tsitsipas for a place in the quarter-finals.

Greek world number 9 Tsitsipas won in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 over Chinese Zhang Zhizhen.

World number two Jannik Sinner advanced by beating Pavel Kotov 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. Sinner will face home hope Corentin Moutet, who defeated Sebastian Ofner in four sets.

Sinner, who has lost only two matches so far this year, has not dropped a single set in the tournament yet.

In the women's singles, two-time defending champion Iga Swiatek celebrated her 23rd birthday by reaching the last 16 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Marie Bouzkova.

Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova won, beating Frenchwoman Chloe Paquette 6-1, 6-3. American third seed Coco Gauff beat Dayana Yastremska 6-2, 6-4.
