Jalandhar: In a major move to ensure accountability, Jalandhar rural police has suspended five officers from different police stations of the district for dereliction of duty. The action comes following repeated public complaints of police negligence and carelessness, particularly in the jurisdiction of Alawalpur outpost. The suspended officers posted in different police stations have been identified as ASI Avtar Singh, Constable Bikramjit Singh, Senior Constable Bhupinder Singh, Constable Aryanpreet Singh and ASI/LR Jaswinder Singh.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh, while briefing the press, said that the department has taken strict action against these officers for failing to perform their duty, which was the cause of many public complaints. Police negligence will not be tolerated at all.

Alawalpur police post in-charge ASI Rajinder Kumar came under the scanner of investigation in a sensitive case related to NDPS Act. Repeated complaints were lodged against him by people for not taking timely action. The officer did not follow due process during investigation, which led to a lot of delay in dispensation of justice, lack of attention to pending cases and poor case management, which increased frustration in the area, which cannot be tolerated.

ASI Avtar Singh posted at Lohian police station was suspended for not properly resolving a land dispute in village Pipli, which could have led to a major law and order situation. He also mishandled an attempt to murder case and DSP Shahkot was found guilty in the investigation. Despite being aware of the potential danger, he did not bring the matter to the notice of senior officers and did not take any preventive action.

ASI Jaswinder Singh posted at Bhogpur police station has been suspended for mishandling a quarrel case which had the potential of turning into a major confrontation. The officer exerted undue pressure on the opposition, which further increased the confusion. The investigation by DSP Adampur has found him guilty of tampering with the case. Constable Bikramjit Singh, Senior Constable Bhupinder Singh and Constable Aryanpreet Singh have been suspended for repeated unauthorized absences for a long period. Constable Aryanpreet Singh's collusion with gangsters and criminal elements has also come to light.

SSP Khakh reiterated the department's commitment to ensure that such negligence does not happen again. He said that dereliction of duty will not be tolerated. He said that we are focused on maintaining law and order and if any officer is found negligent in his duty, he will have to face serious consequences. He said that investigation is going on in this regard and more such actions will be taken in future to maintain the integrity of the force.
