London, March 30 (Hindustan Reporter) Veteran broadcaster Alan Wilkins was on Friday appointed the new chairman of County Cricket Club Glamorgan for a three-year term.

As a left-arm fast bowler, Wilkins took 243 first-class wickets in eight seasons with Glamorgan from 1976 to 1983, and took 130 wickets in List A games, during which time he led the club to their final in the Gillette Cup in 1977 against Middlesex. Helped reach the first one-day final.

After his retirement from cricket, Wilkins began a career in broadcasting. He began working (primarily in rugby, football and cricket) first in South Africa and then for BBC Wales. He now works for Star Sports India.

In an official statement released by Glamorgan, Wilkins said: “Firstly I am thrilled and honored to be considered for the role of Chairman, knowing who has held the position in the past. I have traveled a lot in my work as a broadcaster, and that travel has now brought me home.”

“I want to make a difference for Glamorgan both on and off the field,” he said. We have some new faces coming in, including me. “I know our new head coach (Grant Bradburn) well during my travels with Pakistan and I can’t wait to see his brand of cricket on the Sophia Garden grounds.”

“I am delighted that Alan has accepted the Board’s invitation and I know he will add huge value as we move forward during a period of potential change,” said Mark Ridderach-Roberts, Chairman of Glamorgan CCC.
