Police evacuated the area
Monsoon has started in Uttarakhand. Due to heavy rains in the upper areas, the water level of the Alaknanda river in Badrinath Dham rose above the danger mark. Due to which the Alaknanda was flowing only 6 feet below Taptkund. Due to the fear of the water level of Alaknanda reaching Taptkund, the police has evacuated the area and alerted the surrounding areas. The water level of the river is likely to rise further at night.
Advised not to go to the river bank
Due to the fierce form of Alaknanda, Narad Shila and Varahi Shila are also submerged in water. According to Badrinath Kotwali in-charge Navneet Bhandari, the water level of the river has increased in the Dham. In view of the possibility of water rising at night, Taptkund has been evacuated. Apart from this, continuous announcements are being made through the mike in the camp that no one should go to the river bank. Let us tell you that on normal days Alaknanda flows about 15 feet below Taptkund. Whereas due to rain in the upper areas, the water level of the river is only 6 feet below the Taptkund of the Dham.
