Kanpur, March 13 (HS). Ajay Kapoor, a big businessman of the city and MLA for three consecutive terms, was considered an important face of the Congress party in Kanpur. While being MLA for the third time, demonetization took place in the country, after which discussions started in political circles that Ajay Kapoor could join BJP, but it did not happen.
Not only this, during all the important elections held till now, a round of discussions started. Due to this, the Congress party brought his stature on the national platform and made him the National Secretary, but after seven and a quarter years, on Wednesday, putting an end to the discussions, he joined BJP in Delhi.
In the politics of Kanpur, at present Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana and Ajay Kapoor are two politicians who are powerful despite not having any caste equation. Not only this, both of them are relatives of Sindhi community. While Satish Mahana became MLA for eight consecutive times by doing politics with BJP, Ajay Kapoor, after being in Congress for almost 35 years, became MLA for three consecutive times and contested the elections despite the wave of BJP for two consecutive times. But the discussions about Ajay Kapoor joining BJP first started in the year 2016 when demonetization was implemented in the country. The whole city knew the truth behind this because he is also a big businessman of the city. But this did not happen and he contested the 2017 assembly elections and had to face defeat from BJP's Mahesh Trivedi. When the 2019 Lok Sabha elections came, the same discussions started taking place in the political circles, due to which former Union Minister and candidate from Kanpur Nagar Lok Sabha seat Shriprakash Jaiswal had to bear the loss and BJP achieved a big victory. After this, it was said that in the 2022 assembly elections, Ajay Kapoor will contest under the banner of BJP from Kidwai Nagar seat, and Mahesh Trivedi will contest from Sikandra seat of Kanpur Dehat.
Despite all these speculations, BJP expressed confidence in Mahesh Trivedi and made him a candidate again from Kidwai Nagar, while Ajay Kapoor came into the fray from Congress. Ajay Kapoor contested the elections well but could not win. After a year, when the mayor's election came, discussions started again that Ajay Kapoor would join BJP at any time and contest the mayor's election, but the mayor's seat became a woman's seat, due to which the matter could not be resolved. Such discussions in the political circles were reaching the high command of the Congress Party, so the party gave Ajay Kapoor the responsibility of the post of National Secretary and made him the co-in-charge of Bihar.
Was not getting green signal from party for Lok Sabha ticket
There were discussions about Ajay Kapoor joining BJP for about seven and a quarter years, but he kept calling himself a soldier of Congress. But when the Lok Sabha elections came closer and he submitted his candidature from Kanpur Nagar seat, sources say that the party refused. On this, once again discussions started about his joining BJP and finally he joined the saffron brigade in Delhi on Wednesday in front of Bihar BJP in-charge Vinod Tawde. It is being told that a political tussle broke out between Vinod Tawde and Ajay Kapoor from Bihar itself and the discussions of seven and a quarter years came to an end.
