Halal Food Air India: Air India has made a big announcement regarding Halal certified products. Tata owned company Air India has taken this decision keeping in mind the convenience of the passengers. Under this decision, now Halal food will not be served to Hindu and Sikh passengers. With Vistara’s merger with Air India and manifold increase in its operations, the airline has now made pre-booking of meals mandatory for passengers.
Halal food must be booked in advance
According to the new order of Tata company-owned airline Air India, Halal certification will now be available only for ‘Muslim Food’ (MoML) and that too will have to be booked in advance. All Halal food will only be available in certain areas such as Saudi Arabia and Hajj flights. Air India said, ‘Food with MOML sticker label will be served only after pre-booking. Also, non-veg food will be halal for the Saudi sector. Apart from this, Halal certificate will be given along with Haj flights to Jeddah, Dammam, Riyadh, Madina sectors.
Order also came regarding Muslim food
Some time ago, Air India faced a lot of criticism for naming its Halal certified meal Muslim Meal. Now the company has decided that the term Special Meal (Air India Special Meal) will be used instead of Muslim Meal, for which an advisory has also been issued.
When Air India introduced food called Muslim Meal, there was a lot of opposition to it. Political parties also objected to this and alleged that now even food is being distributed between Hindus and Muslims. Tata then decided that from now on Halal certified food would be called special food instead of Muslim food.
What did Air India say on this change?
A senior Air India official said, ‘We have always provided food options for the convenience of passengers. Now food service has been started. Now food booking will have to be done in advance. Let us tell you that earlier the relatively small Air India (before the merger with Vistara) did not put much emphasis on pre-booking of meals.
