New Delhi: India currently has a shortage of fighter planes. Air Chief Marshal A.P. “Due to the fear of both China and Pakistan, we should have at least 42 squadrons, instead we have only 31 squadrons,” Singh said at a conference held here. Along with this, he expressed regret and said that at present the pace of production of fighter planes has also slowed down, which is also worrying.

He said that for this some short-term solutions will have to be found and under that we will have to import fire jets from abroad as soon as possible.

Along with this, the Air Force Chief also emphasized on self-reliance. Having said that, we cannot afford to slow down and wait when our opponents are moving forward with large numbers of fighters.

Head of Defense Research and Development Organisation, Dr. Sameer K. Kamath said that we allocate only 5 percent of our defense budget to research and development. In fact, 10 to 15 percent should be allocated for what does not happen. Actually, 5.6 to 6 billion dollars are required to make the sixth generation engine. Which have not been completed.
