In the Delhi Assembly elections, Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM has intensified efforts to strengthen its hold on Muslim dominated areas. The party is now working on a strategy to corner BJP leader Kapil Mishra. AIMIM is preparing to field its candidate against Mishra on Karawal Nagar seat. Party’s state president Shoaib Jamai has indicated this.

AIMIM’s focus in Karawal Nagar

Shoaib Jamai, citing 30% Muslim population in Karawal Nagar seat, said that the area is full of possibilities for AIMIM.

  • Son-in-law’s statement:

“We have contested councilor elections here before and our organization is strong. It is our duty to give a good option to the public. Anything is possible in politics.”

Jamai also said that Congress should support AIMIM in Mustafabad and Okhla.

Discussion on giving ticket to Ishrat Jahan

AIMIM may give ticket to former Congress councilor and Delhi riots accused Ishrat Jahan against Kapil Mishra from Karawal Nagar.

  • Allegations against Ishrat Jahan:
    • A charge sheet has been filed against Ishrat and 12 others on charges of attempt to murder, inciting riot and illegal gathering of crowd.
  • Shoaib Jamai has given further strength to these speculations by retweeting the news regarding Ishrat’s ticket.

Called Kapil Mishra the “mastermind of the riots”

Shoaib Jamai launched a scathing attack on BJP leader Kapil Mishra and called him the real mastermind of Delhi riots.

  • The son-in-law said,

“Kapil Mishra getting ticket is like rubbing salt on the wounds of riot-affected Muslims.”

AIMIM’s strategy: Trust on controversial faces

AIMIM has earlier also fielded Delhi riots accused in the election field.

  • Tahir Hussain: Candidate from Mustafabad.
  • Shafa Ur Rehman: Candidate from Okhla.
  • Shahrukh Pathan: Consideration is being given to giving ticket to Shahrukh Pathan also.

Karawal Nagar: Electoral strength of AIMIM

AIMIM’s election strategy in Karawal Nagar:

  1. 30% Muslim population: This figure gives a strong base to the party.
  2. Experience of councilor elections: Earlier contested elections here strengthen the presence of the organization.
  3. Polarization against BJP: The party will try to capitalize on Kapil Mishra’s controversial statements and his image related to the riots.
