During the special drive launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to ensure peaceful celebration of the forthcoming Independence Day-2024, Punjab Police has busted a cross-border smuggling module by arresting an operative linked with Pakistan-based smuggler Rana Dayal
Giving this information, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said here on Monday that the arrested accused has been identified as Rajwant Singh alias Raju resident of village Atalgarh Amritsar. Police teams have recovered two modern 9mm Glock pistols and two magazines from the possession of the said person. Apart from this, his motorcycle CT-100 (PB02 AL 7481), on which he was going to deliver the consignment, has also been seized.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) Amritsar had received information from reliable sources that Rajwant Singh Raju had recently received a consignment of smuggled weapons and drugs and he was going to deliver this consignment to a party near Khurmani Mor on Attari-Amritsar road. Acting promptly on the information received, a police team of SSOC Amritsar cordoned off the designated area in a planned manner and arrested the accused Rajwant Raju along with the consignment of weapons.
The DGP said that the arrested accused was in direct contact with Pakistan-based smuggler Rana Dayal, who smuggles large consignments of arms and narcotics into Indian territory through drones and other means. He said that further interrogation is being done to find out the previous activities of the accused regarding smuggling.
Sharing more details in this regard, A.I.G. SSOC Amritsar Sukhminder Singh Mann said that during the preliminary investigation it was revealed that Rajwant Singh had been receiving consignments of drugs and illegal weapons sent by Pakistani smuggler Rana Dayal for a long time. He further said that the smuggled weapons were ordered to be sold to local buyers.
In this regard FIR No. 46 dated 04.08.2024 has been registered at NDPS Police Station SSOC Amritsar under Sections 21, 25 and 29 of the Act, Section 25 of Arms Act, Section 61 (2) of Indian Penal Code (BNS). The accused will be produced in the court for obtaining police remand.
