Prayagraj, 23 September (HS). Agroforestry models should be developed after mutual dialogue between scientists and farmers. The extension system and resources of the Department of Agriculture can be used to promote agroforestry.
The above views were expressed by the chief guest, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Dr. Satya Prakash Shrivastava, while inaugurating a two-day training program on the subject of “Agroforestry Model of Uttar Pradesh” organized by the IAS Ecological Restoration Center, Prayagraj under the Forest Science Center, Gorakhpur.
In the program organized on Monday, Dr. Sanjay Singh, head of the Ecological Restoration Center Prayagraj, said that through agroforestry, it is possible to increase the livelihood of farmers along with the green cover. Alok Yadav, senior scientist and program coordinator of the center, informed about the outline of the training program.
In the first technical session, senior scientist Dr. Anita Tomar discussed on poplar based agroforestry and Dr. Neelam Khare, Associate Professor, SHUATS, discussed on the possibilities of chironji cultivation and senior scientist Dr. Kumud Dubey on the subject of Milia based agroforestry. Progressive farmer Utkrisht Pandey of Pratapgarh threw light on sandalwood cultivation in agroforestry. Senior scientist of the center, Dr. Anubha Shrivastava said that under agroforestry, eucalyptus is used at a high level on cultivable land. She informed that the center has clones of eucalyptus and poplar suitable for Uttar Pradesh available for farmers.
Senior scientist Dr. Anubha Shrivastava gave the vote of thanks in the program. On the first day of the training program, about 100 farmers participated in agroforestry training.
