The central government is considering measures to improve the Agniveer scheme. In this regard, the Defense Ministry has asked the chiefs of the three armies whether they are capable of making more than 25 percent of Agniveers permanent? The chiefs of the three armies may soon submit their opinion to the government in this regard. Sources say that due to non-recruitment in the armies during the Corona period, the posts of soldiers are vacant in all three armies, hence in the coming days, there may be an opportunity to make more than 25 percent of Agniveers permanent.

However, a process of intensive discussion is going on within the three armies on this matter. But if Agniveers are made permanent on the basis of vacancies then it is considered certain that more Agniveers will be made permanent. When Air Force Chief AP Singh was asked about this, he said that the government has asked all three services about this. Discussions are going on on this and we will soon submit our opinion to the government.

The Central Government had launched the Agneepath Scheme in 2022, under which the scheme of recruitment of Agniveers in all three armies was started for four years. Under this scheme, maximum 25 percent of Agniveers will be made permanent after completion of four years tenure. For this they will have to pass a separate examination. Since then, Agniveers are being recruited continuously in all three armies. Till now, more than 50 thousand Agniveers have been recruited in the three armies.

The opposition is continuously targeting the government regarding this scheme. Therefore, there is pressure on the government to improve this scheme. Meanwhile, the Army has also started discussions with the three armies on this issue. Since the first batch of Agniveers will retire in 2026, the government has enough time to make changes in the policy of permanentization of Agniveers.
