RSS leader Subhash Velingkar News: Subhash Welingkar, former president of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Goa, made a controversial statement which sparked outrage among Christians and they demanded the arrest of Welingkar. Velingkar was expelled from the association in 2016 for controversial statements. He recently courted controversy by commenting on the DNA analysis of the remains of St. Francis Xavier. Christians staged a protest demanding action against them.
People from the Christian community gathered at many places in Goa and demanded the arrest of Velingkar. On the other hand, Goa Police has registered an FIR against Velingkar. There have also been reports that former Sangh leaders have absconded after the complaint was filed. Goa Police said that now we are searching for Velingkar. About six complaints have been filed against him. The complaint alleges that Velingkar knowingly made derogatory remarks about St. Francis Xavier. Due to which religious sentiments have been hurt.
A police team reached Velingkar's house on Friday itself but he was not there. Here in Margao, more than 300 Christians gathered outside the police station and demanded the arrest of Velingkar. On the other hand, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that BJP wants to create religious conflict in Goa. Goa is known for unity in diversity, BJP wants to attack this unity. Former leaders of the Sangh are provoking Christians while the Sangh itself calls for boycott of Muslims. It is worth noting that a day earlier, controversial Mahant Yati Narasimhanand of Uttar Pradesh had created a controversy by making inflammatory statements about Prophet Mohammed, now the former leader of the Sangh has instigated Christians by making comments about the Christian priest in Goa.
