New Delhi, July 15 (HS). Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz said that winning the Wimbledon title is a dream for him. Alcaraz won his second consecutive Wimbledon title by defeating Novak Djokovic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) on Sunday night at Centre Court in London.
After the match, Alcaraz said that he wants to play further. He said that playing on the Centre Court and winning the trophy was a 'great feeling'.
“It's a dream for me to win this trophy… I want to keep playing but it's a great feeling to play on this beautiful court and lift this amazing trophy. It's the most beautiful tournament, the most beautiful court and the most beautiful trophy,” Alcaraz was quoted as saying by the ATP's official website.
The Spanish tennis player said he tried to stay calm and positive in his 2024 Wimbledon final match against Djokovic. He also admitted that it was a tough match.
He said, “It was difficult for me. I tried to stay calm, I tried to stay positive in that situation before going into the tiebreak and focus on playing my best tennis. That's all I was thinking about. I'm really happy that in the end I was able to find a solution and I'm happy to be in this position.”
The Spanish tennis player started well in the Wimbledon 2024 final and won the first set 6-2 against Serbian legend Djokovic. The first set was one-sided and Alcaraz won it in 41 minutes.
Alcaraz kept up his momentum and won the second set 6-2. Djokovic struggled in the second set and failed to make a comeback.
The Serbian tennis player tried to make a comeback in the third set but Alcaraz did not give up easily. Djokovic started well in the third set and gave a tough fight to his opponent but the Spaniard fought back and forced the match into a tiebreak. Alcaraz kept his composure and won the tiebreak 7-4 to win the title.
