Bengaluru, May 13 (HS). Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis praised fast bowlers Yash Dayal and Lockie Ferguson after his team's 47-run win over Delhi Capitals (DC) on Sunday.
RCB continued their excellent performance in the second half of IPL 2024 and achieved five wins in five matches. RCB team reached fifth place in the points table after defeating Delhi by 47 runs at its home ground M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday.
After the match Faf said, “We put in some good performances and are actually a bit happy now. In the first half of the season, things didn't quite come together and from a batting and bowling perspective we weren't able to keep it together, but now we are putting the performances together.”
He further said, “A lot of work has been done behind the scenes and we are getting it right and I think there is a lot of variety in our bowling now. Yash and Lockie have been exceptional in the last few matches. We want to be courageous, against Delhi also we played swing up front and bounce up front, our score in the powerplay was around 60, the batsmen and bowlers are now pushing hard.”
He also praised left arm spinner Swapnil Singh. The captain said, “Sometimes people talk about match-ups and so on, but with a left-arm spinner turning the ball, you hope that sometimes it will work. Swapnil has performed brilliantly for us.”
Talking about the match, Delhi won the toss and decided to bowl first. RCB had Rajat Patidar (52 runs in 32 balls, five fours and three sixes), Will Jacques (41 runs in 29 balls, three fours and two sixes), Cameron Green (32* in 24 balls, one four and two sixes) and Thanks to the innings of Virat Kohli (27 runs in 13 balls, one four and three sixes), 187 runs were scored for 9 wickets in 20 overs.
Rasikh Salam and Khalil Ahmed took 2-2 wickets for Delhi.
Chasing the target of 188 runs, the Delhi team was struggling at one time, losing 4 wickets for only 30 runs, but after this, the partnership of 56 runs between Shai Hope (29 runs in 23 balls, four fours) and Akshar Patel helped them to reach the target. Brought the team back into the match. Delhi's stand-in captain Akshar scored his second half-century of the season, scoring 57 runs in 39 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes to keep his team alive in the match. However, RCB bowlers kept the run flow under control and bowled out Delhi for 140 in 19.1 overs to win by 47 runs.
For RCB, Yash Dayal took three wickets and Lockie Ferguson took 2 wickets.
With this win, RCB has kept its playoff hopes alive and has reached fifth place with six wins, seven losses and a total of 12 points. Delhi has slipped to sixth place with six wins, seven losses and 12 points. Their net run rate is less than RCB.
