Nitasha Kaul, an Indian-origin professor at Britain's Westminster University, claimed that she was sent back to London from Bengaluru airport. Nitasha Kaul was invited by the Karnataka government as a speaker at the two-day 'Constitution and National Unity Conference-2024' held on 24 and 25 February.
Nitasha Kaul has alleged that because of her views on democratic and constitutional values, she was detained by immigration officials at the Bengaluru airport on the orders of Delhi and not allowed to attend the event. Nitasha is Professor in the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Westminster.
Know what are the allegations?
Nitasha wrote in the social media post that the officials did not give me any reason. The officials said that we cannot do anything, there are orders from Delhi. My accommodation and travel arrangements were made by the Government of Karnataka. I had an official invitation letter. I did not receive any prior notice from Delhi that I would not be allowed to attend the program.
He further said that I spent 12 hours in the flight from London to Bangalore. Spent many hours in immigration. They took me here and there. Then spent 24 hours in the holding cell. The professor alleges that he was not even given a place to sleep, food and water. They made dozens of calls to the airport for basic items like mattresses and blankets. Then had to return back to London.
Nitasha said that she is not anti-India but pro-democracy. “I am an internationally renowned academic and public intellectual,” Kaul said. I care about gender equality, challenging crime, stability, civil and political liberties, the rule of law. My decades of work speak for themselves.
