Ladakh, 1 November (Hindustan Reporter). After the tension between India and China subsided, Indian soldiers started patrolling in Demchok sector of eastern Ladakh on Friday.
The development comes after India and China agreed to reduce tensions and begin coordinated patrolling along their perception of the Line of Actual Control in Demchok and Depsang sectors.
Patrolling by Indian soldiers has started today in Demchok sector of eastern Ladakh. Indian Army sources said that patrolling is expected to start soon in Depsang sector also. Coordinated patrolling would mean that both sides would be aware of the patrolling schedule.
Earlier on Thursday, on the occasion of Diwali, the armies of both the countries distributed sweets to each other at various border points in the Ladakh sector. Indian and Chinese armies exchanged sweets at Hot Springs, Karakoram Pass, Daulat Beg Oldie, Kongkla and Chushul-Moldo border meeting point in Ladakh.
Ladakh MP Haji Hanifa welcomed the disengagement between Indian and Chinese armies along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh.
MP Hanifa said that those of us who live near the border know what war feels like. We want peace on the border. We welcome the agreement between the two countries but we want to see it implemented on the ground. He said that tension on the border should be reduced through diplomatic means.
Earlier, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi stressed that restoring confidence along the Line of Actual Control will be a gradual process that will lead to a return to the status quo of April 2020, calling for disengagement, de-escalation and buffer to reduce tensions between the two countries. The steps of zone management were considered important. He further explained that this process will happen in phases with each phase aimed at reducing tension.
Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong said that as neighboring countries, it is natural for India and China to have differences but the important thing is how to handle and resolve these differences.
India and China have recently agreed to patrolling arrangements on the LAC on the India-China border. The border standoff between India and China began in 2020 along the LAC in eastern Ladakh which was triggered by Chinese military actions. This incident led to prolonged tension between the two countries, which strained their relations.
