Syria’s new interim Prime Minister Mohammed al-Bashir: After the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria, there was debate over who would take power there. The answer to this question has been given on 10 December. Rebels have appointed Mohammed al-Bashir as the interim Prime Minister of Syria. He will serve as Prime Minister until March 1, 2025.
Who is Mohammed al-Bashir?
Mohammed al-Bashir was born in 1986 in the Jabal Zawiya area of Idlib. He has studied in fields such as engineering, law and administrative planning. In 2007, he received a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Aleppo University. He made special studies to learn the English language. In 2021, he also obtained a degree in Sharia Law from Idlib University. After his studies, he worked as an engineer in a gas plant affiliated with the Syrian Gas Company.
Left government job and became a rebel
Following the 2011 uprising against the Assad government, Bashir resigned from his government job and joined the rebels. Between 2022 and 2023 he was Minister of Development and Humanitarian Affairs in the rebel government. In January 2024, he was elected Prime Minister by the Shura Council of the Salvation Government. During his tenure, priority was given to e-government and automation of government services.
Became the 70th Prime Minister of Syria
He took charge of the country as the Prime Minister of the ‘Syrian Salvation Government’ linked to HTS (Hayat Tahrir al-Sham), leading to regime change in Syria. He became the 70th Prime Minister of Syria.

After becoming Prime Minister, Mohammed al-Bashir addressed the Syrian people via state television. He said, he will lead the interim government till March 1, 2025. We held a cabinet meeting in which a team from the Salvation Government working in and around Idlib and members of the government of the ousted regime met. He said, important files and transfer of power were discussed in the meeting.
An interim government has been formed, but only time will tell whether everything will be fine in Syria or it will reach new depths.
